Humility in the Morning

The last twenty-four hours have passed here with high speed winds and unreal amounts of rain. For the time, the rain has stopped and clouds linger low in the sky. My morning began earlier today as the sun rose prematurely (thanks daylight savings).
Yesterday, Phil and I went down to the beach after church and a simple lunch of potato soup and homemade bread; the 3:30pm sky resembled more of a 5:30-6pm scene. It's amazing how darkness comes on so quickly here in the North. Between the early setting sun, the heavy moisture in the air, and the speeding clouds, the resulting light-show was unlike anything I've ever seen before--various hues of pinks, purples, blues pressed hard against the turquoise sea out and below (who new a northern atlantic could be turquoise?)
With my 'extra' morning time, I have nothing tangible to show-no clean dishes, no 'winterized' car (another joy of living in New England--all season tires and minus 40 degree auto fluids), not even a made-up bed. No, all I have is an empty coffee mug and a heart and mind that is even presently being filled up by His Spirit.
In my time, I sought the Lord and He heard my cry.
Christ and His Church (bridegroom and bride). Ephesians 5:25-27 :Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.
We, brothers and sisters, are His Bride. I often ask The Lord...'when?' 'When, oh Lord will you present us (Your Church) to Yourself?' He gently responds, 'When you're ready'. The truth is, I am still be being sanctified. I am still being cleansed as in the case of being washed with water, the water is the Word of God.
I think on my thought-life (ironic eh?). The second-rate junk that I choose to put into my mind. I'm not washing my mind with water, but with sewage--toxic sewage that deteriorates that which God has made new and whole (2 Corinthians 5:17--Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.)
Be new with me--only through the power of the Holy Spirit and faith in Christ, Son of God and Son of Man, do we live.

  1. Thanks for your encouraging comments friend. We are finding a new and strange way of life here in Liberia. I love reading about your adventures in Maine. I can almost feel the cool ocean breeze- which would actually be awesome to feel right now! Much love friend.
