Stockings were hung, gifts were unwrapped, and an obscene amount of sweets and citrus were consumed! Yes, you guessed it, we were home for Christmas...in Danville Virginia!
This week has been full of many things I have come to expect of Christmas since marrying Phil. One of those things is hot beverages all day long! Each year around this time, every Honea woman (maybe there are a few exceptions...) makes her household a batch of hot cocoa. I add mini marshmallows to mine and often suggest adding peppermint too. A heaping 1/3 cup of this chocolate goodness added to hot water and a good book results in several hours of R and R...
Another expectation that is always met each Christmas is my riverside strolls. Phil's family owns forty acres of rolling hills and grassy fields outside of Danville. The Sandy River runs through their property and they have created and maintained trails along the water. Most of you know, I have this affinity for water that few people understand. I take baths most days and could live in the water if only I could figure out some way of not becoming a prune. I especially love fresh water pools in hidden places. There is an area (off the beaten path) where you can climb down to the sandbar and escape the cold breeze. Here, it is quiet and still. I think this is where mr. and mrs. beaver live...
The unexpected surprise this year was the amount of Asian influences and themes. We prepared tempura vegetables, shrimp, and cod fish one night for dinner. We ordered out Indian food one day for lunch, and with the leftover rice, prepared Chinese fried rice for dinner! With so many of us Honeas with Asian connections and dreams for the future, I hope this becomes a new Holiday tradition!
More to come later....its late in the afternoon and we have to hit the road to make it to Duncan, North Carolina for dinner!!!
